Cant play Battlefield 2 from a black screen problem?

Hi, When I start up Battlefield 2/1942 it goes to a black screen. All I can hear is the main menu music, can u help?

I have tried it many times, It loads up with a black screen but I can still hear the music like "EA games"

It did when I had my old video card, then I bought my Radeon X800 GT and it stopped working

That is weird. Should work to my knowledge. Have you tried updatig the ati drivers to the latest yet?

Going to try something that may not work, but worth a shot.

If you don't already have a shortcut on your desktop, or if you want to create a duplicate, go to the Start menu and find your Battlefield 2 icon. This will usually be found in All Programs -> EA GAMES -> Battlefield 2 (or Battlefield 2 Special Forces.)
Right-click the Play Battlefield 2 (or Play Battlefield 2 Special Forces) icon and choose Send To. Select Desktop (create shortcut)
This places a copy of that shortcut on your desktop.
Right-click the shortcut and choose Properties.
Add a space and then the following to the Target: line:
+szx 800 +szy 600
Press Apply, then OK.

Also, have you ran other games with that card recently?

Ok, I will try that now.. I have ran SWBF2 and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 (plus soaked expansion) with this card

Might have found the problem. This is directly from the EA support sight.

This issue is typically caused by a conflict with the video card or video card drivers. Make sure your video card meets the requirements for the game, and that your drivers are the newest version available from the manufacturer.

The supported video cards are as listed below:

ATI Radeon

X700 (PCIe), X600 (PCIe), X800 XT Platinum Edition, X800 PRO, X300 series.
9800 series, 9700 series, 9600 series, 9559 (RV350LX), 9500 series, 8500 series.
NVIDIA GeForce

6600 (PCIe), PCX 5900 (PCIe).
5800 series (AGP).
6800 Ultra, 6800 GT, 6800.
FX 5950 series, FX 5900 series, FX 5700 series.
If you are not using one of these video card chipsets, the game may run improperly or may not run at all. The game was tested to communicate properly with the aforementioned chipsets using the newest drivers. If you have one of these cards but are still experiencing the issue, it is likely that the drivers you have are not the newest manufacturer version.

Note that if you have a ATI Radeon 9200 PCI card (this does not apply to AGP or PCI Express cards), you may experience this issue even after updating your drivers. I've noticed it does not say x800 series, but lists specific cards, which yours does not appear to be listed. This may be the problem. Wierd that they made it like that and if that is the reason, it is stupid, but then again EA might have had a reason.

I'm thinking it is the compatability problem mentioned earlier then. As I said, it is wierd, but I would email EA's tech support to see if they may have a solution. If they respond or you find a way to fix it, post your findings here so others that may run into the same problem know what to do. I'm stumped on this one. It sound like some sort of software problem because you are able to run other games on that card without a problem. It is not drivers as far as I can tell because of that reason. Same for gfx memory and GPU. It has to be the game itself. The only other thing would suggest, and it also may not work, would be uninstalling/reinstalling the game. Could be a hickup in the programming. Won't do any harm in trying.
