CLASSPNP.SYS Stop error
Uh oh!
Hey guys, so I upgraded my motherboard, CPU, RAM, GPU, and PSU last night, and I've unsurprisingly run into a pretty big problem. My computer boots, POSTs, gets to the bootloader, but not long after Windows 7 begins to load, I get a Stop error (BSoD).
After checking the boot log, the Stop error appears to happen after a driver called CLASSPNP.SYS is loaded, which, according to Google, is the driver for SCSI, which I don't even utilize lol.
I've tried a few things:
- Configuring the SATA drives as AHCI instead of IDE,
- Limiting my processor cores to 1, and
- Booting into all of the Safe Mode options,
but to no avail.
I still have a few tricks up my sleeve, such as clearing the CMOS, attempting a Windows Startup Repair, and removing my graphics card, but I wanted to know what you guys think about this.
My very last resort is to reinstall Windows.
Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only (h/n/p)ope.
Hardware:
-ASUS P8B75-V LGA 1155 Intel B75 ATX Motherboard
-Intel Core i5 3470S Ivy Bridge 2.9GHz LGA 1155 Processor
-ASUS GeForce GTX550 Ti GDDR5 192-bit 1GB
-G.SKILL Extreme Performance 8GB (4x2GB) DDR3-1333MHz Quad-Channel Memory
-Rosewill CAPSTONE-550 550W 80 GOLD PLUS Power Supply

Re: CLASSPNP.SYS Stop error
Get the hex code for the stop error. Those are often more useful.

Re: CLASSPNP.SYS Stop error
I didn't have time to read the entire post, but hopefully THIS should help you out. Other than that try booting in RAID mode. What I got from some quick research I did is that the computer can't find the boot device. Hopefully it's not your HDD/SSD. Also, check your drivers (if you can) and make sure they're all good to go. A google search for your hex code should also turn up some more stuff. Good luck!

Re: CLASSPNP.SYS Stop error
I wouldn't be able to get a Stop error if I couldn't get into the bootloader.
I can't check my drivers; I can't get into Windows.

This explains a lot.
One day later.
I'm sure you'll get it figured out soon.
The one time this smiley is quite appropriate.

LOL^
Yeah, so instead of wasting days over trying to fix this problem normally, I just said "LOL NO" and performed a fresh install of Windows. All is well again.

Re: CLASSPNP.SYS Stop error
Did you loose any data in the process or was this a clean HDD/SSD? Glad you got the problem fixed

Re: CLASSPNP.SYS Stop error
The 7B error is generally an "INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE" error. I'd recommend following the solution (marked in green) in this thread, then getting back to us.
