Strange Battlefront Crash....
After rebuilding my computer, whenever I try to play Death Star GCW, the game crashes.
I have done a clean re-install four times, and installed the 1.3 patch all four times.
I have the DVD 1.1 version of the game.
I can't get an error log, no modtools.
There's no install errors, and no errors at all until the crash.
I can't d/l the modtools, because until the ISP fixes the internet, the d/l would take a month.
It may happen on other GCW maps as well, I haven't tried.

Re: Strange Battlefront Crash....
What operating system are you using?
You should try it with different missions to see if it's only the GCW side crashing.
Where in the loading process does it crash? If in the loading screen, how many dots show up?

It is only GCW, CW works fine.
The whole thing loads, but it crashes as the last dot finishes loading, but before the unit screen shows up.

Re: Strange Battlefront Crash....
Since you have reinstalled it many times already try once more, this time just load the game no patches except for the 1.1 patch if you need it. Try running the game that way see if it works then add in the other patches. If it works without 1.3 but crashes with 1.3 then make sure you have all the files in the right place and the compatability things I hear Vista needs to have turned on.

I've never ran anything in compatibility mode for SWBFII, so you should do fine without them.

Re: Strange Battlefront Crash....
As I said before its probably just a simple update issue that needs to be worked out... most people don't download the updates manually... so you may end up behind in the game... Vista does have compatibility problems, we all know this, but updating your system will most likely solve your problem

Based on what evidence? It's always good to keep up-to-date, but you can't just slap the "Vista=problem" label on to everything especially when things like:Battleffront_Conquer wrote:but updating your system will most likely solve your problem

http://www.gametoast.com/forums/viewtop ... 27&t=13806Question - I have the CD version of SWBF2 and I get a binkw32.dll error when trying to launch the BF2_modtools.exe, what's wrong?
Answer - The BF2_modtools.exe is the debug executable, copy it from the main BF2_modtools folder and paste it in the same folder as your battlefront2.exe, usually:
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData
then you can launch BF2_modtools.exe and play your map to get a BFront2.log located in that same folder.
If you have the DVD version check THIS LINK for a DVD version of BF2_modtools.exe

and is related to the v1.3 patch. The patch doesn't install correctly in Vista or Windows 7. Like others said, reinstall one more time and test it without the v1.3 patch. When you reinstall, make sure to delete everything from your SWBF2 folder and any related compatibility files too. Don't forget to backup your profile if you want it.Maveritchell wrote:...If it's sides-related, there's an astronomically high chance it is not related to the OS.

Re: Strange Battlefront Crash....
@Battleffront_Conquer: It's not an issue with Vista, it has worked fine up until the point of my first 1.3 installation about a year ago.
@Frag&Zerted: I seem to have been a bit unclear, sorry. I meant that I have uninstalled, reinstalled, tested, then installed 1.3 after it crashed in hopes of fixing it. I do delete the remants of 1.3 after each reinstall. I also tried un/reinstalling and then using Rep's 1.2 patch, but that has not worked either.
@Tean: I know that, that's not my issue, I just can't download anything right now because of my ISP working on updates to the interwebz.

Re: Strange Battlefront Crash....
thank you, i hate it when people slap that vista=most messed up OS ever. even if it probably is true, its usually not the problem. ill bet at least 1/4 the community here runs vista without major problemMaveritchell wrote:Based on what evidence? You don't think it could be graphics related, do you? I know it seems crazy, but a few maps only would crash because my graphics driver was not updated. i rather doubt that's the problem but its just a shot in the dark.

Re: Strange Battlefront Crash....
I had the same problem. Crash after loading for anything that used default imp units.
I guess you weren't able to play the hunt mode of Mav's new Bakura?
Zerted's solution is the best and only way to fix this. (That I know of)

Re: Strange Battlefront Crash....
Right - but it can give us a debug log to find the cause of the crash -- that's all I'm saying. So when your ISP is working better use that version of the mod tools exe and get us a BFront2.log.DarthRogueKnight wrote:@Tean: I know that, that's not my issue, I just can't download anything right now because of my ISP working on updates to the interwebz.
