it's happened and people disguise it as "working together" or collaborating but yes believe me it's happened

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
I am willing to help model. I need the practice.
In fact, even if people don't need modeling, I may make Taris buildings anyway and release an asset pack for all to use.

I'm going to go for it. You'll probably be able to tell which one is mine without me even telling you. LOL

Apologies, but has the deadline been set? I learned about this kinda late and I was wondering if it was worth it to give it a shot.

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
It hasn't been officially announced on SWBFFiles, but I believe we talked about it ending Aug. 13 (we added a bit of pad time, because of the fact that FF network sites have been so odd lately).

Cool. I might just try a very simple, small map. I don't expect it to be very impressive, but I can use the practice.

Those can often be the best. The less area you have to cover, the more attention you can pay to each individual part.jangoisbaddest wrote:Cool. I might just try a very simple, small map.

I approve. I am not saying big maps are bad, thing is though that I have never played a really good one. Ever. The best maps I have ever played are pl_goldrush and cp_dustbowl in Team Fortress 2, and they are really small when you look at it. I have probably played them hundreds of times and I never get tired of them.Maveritchell wrote:Those can often be the best. .
*EDIT* LOL I just got KotOR and realized that Iwas way off on my map. Now I have to start all over again. Drat.
*EDIT2* Are you allowed to remove units?
Yes, I think both have their own advantages and disadvantages. I guess it really depends on opinion (and processing power on your computer)YouJediJunkie wrote:I approve. Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
Likewise, but instead of Battle Arena and DMI (although I do have to finish my part for it), I have this college course as well as various other projects. Sounds like it'll be a good contest, though; I wish I had the time to participate, because it seems like it'd be quite difficult to be disqualified from this contest.RepSharpshooter wrote:I can definitely say that I have enough on my plate already, battle arena, DMI, etc. But the idea of Taris sounds neat, and I probably have the modeling ability to do something, just not the time unfortunately.
(no, I'm not upset about what happened in the last contest, haha)

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
I've finally finished the map portion of it. Took me all night and I finished about 2 minutes ago. It was challenging. Now I just need to bug test. That and see if my brothers like it (unless that's against the rules. Is it? They're not really involved with anything about Gametoast. In fact they hate Gametoast. But I like it here.)

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
I don't see any problem with that. The idea is that the people voting in the contest should not know who submitted which map.vegati wrote:That and see if my brothers like it (unless that's against the rules. Is it? Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
So the absolute only thing were allowed to load with the map is a readme with only installation instructions, yes?
P.S Would removing units be considered custom?

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
Just look at what was included with past contest entries:vegati wrote:So the absolute only thing were allowed to load with the map is a readme with only installation instructions, yes?
http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... test;10597
It should be installation instructions and a list of credits if you used someone else's assets, but basically nothing else.
If you are using the stock sides you are ok. I would recommend keeping them basically the same as any stock map, simply because that helps everyone best judge the map, and not any side changes that go along with it.vegati wrote:P.S Would removing units be considered custom?

Well, if I don't take out this certain unit then there will be a major glitch in my level

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
I am sure it is not an unfixable glitch, but it is your decision to leave the unit in or take it out - it is within the rules as long as you're sticking to the stock sides. I was merely making a recommendation, which you can heed or ignore at your discretion.vegati wrote:Well, if I don't take out this certain unit then there will be a major glitch in my level

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
It has to do with the way the map is layed out. If I wanted it fixed I would have to redo half of the map. And it took me literally 24 hours to create the map. I don't feel like spending another 24 fixing something that could have been easily fixed in a different manner. Maybe I'll fix it once the contest is over. Boy am I tired. I may not even have any competition. It seems no one else has the time and/or the willingness to make a map. Maybe I'll get lucky. Ya never know.
BTW in this video you sound a lot like one of my teachers: http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... ults;41001
Especially because you mention TMNT which he LOVES (e.g he cut off his head in a picture glued it to one of the turtles and hung it near his desk) He's also cool like you.

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
Alright, while the contest has been in "swing" for a couple weeks now, we finally got our first submission this evening - you can see it (and eventually more) in the SWBF2 "Contests" file category at SWBFFiles:
http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... test;10597
(Please note that this category currently includes Nov/Dec contest maps; those will be shuffled shortly to a subcategory so that no one gets them confused with the Jul/Aug contest maps.)
Make sure to get those maps finished up and in! I'm really looking forward to seeing all the submissions.

Re: SWBFFiles Summer Mapping Contest
Sorry if this has already been answered, but when is the final deadline for submitting maps?
