Wii U Information from Nintendo Direct

From Pokebeach, my usual info sites exploded with traffic while I was writing this.
http://pokebeach.com/2012/06/nintendo-d ... u-features
Main Info:
-Wii U planning began in 2008, unification is the goal of the system.
-"Wii U Game Pad" has been imporved greatly from the 2011 prototype, featuring actual sticks instead of nubs.
-Pad can detect distance from the TV to be used like one of those VR helmets you saw in cartoons about the future, as it can also detect what is on the screen in front of it.
-Pad can play the entire game itself as long as the system is on, the TV can be used for other things.
-All Wii controllers work with the Wii U. It was not mentioned if games will work too, but I'm guessing yes.
-A Wii U Pro controller was shown, but it probably isn't the final design as it appears to be a photoshopped 360 controller.
-Much more focus on Miis, with the ability to see them on the 3DS and your computer as well.
-A blue curtain that plays fanfare can be used to reveal something from the pad. I'm sure this will not be used in any immature ways.
-The system can support multiple pads.

Hmm, sounds interesting. I just hope the graphics don't end up being garbage again...
Personally, I can't wait to hear info about the Xbox Phoenix.

They really need real third party games this time around, and they need to be careful not to focus too much on gimmick controls. Motion and touch controls are great, but players will always be drawn back to a gamepad.

That won't be a problem.

Also, there were a few other interesting rumors I saw, but they were only rumors. Unfortunately, I can't find my source, but they included achievements, screenshots, and the ability to watch your friends play online.

I'll wait until E3 to judge graphics. Every tech demo I've ever seen for a console ends up being more than the actual final console can handle. And given that last year's Wii U third party games showcased were actually just recordings from current-gen consoles I'd rather wait and see.

I was really impressed with Nintendo's Pre E3 video. And the Wii U Pro looks like a 360 controller, but I think the 360 controller is one of the best controllers out there so I'm happy about it. Now I'm more excited for E3 to see what else they talk about hardware/OS wise and there will be alot of games.
IGN has a pretty good 84 Wii U rumors that can get you excited.

TW's Thoughts:
I've learned my lesson from the 3DS. I was intrigued by the concept of the Wii U, but looking at how few options it has at launch, I think I'll wait until something more revolutionary before dropping the big bucks. Like Smash Bros or Zelda. I will be keeping my eyes on the reviews on LEGO City and The Wonderful 101, though, those two piqued my interest (well, aside from ACIII and Batman, but I already own Batman and I already pre-ordered ACIII for Xbox, so really I just wanted to get those used later on just to see what's different).
If I were to purchase it, though, $50 for 4X the memory and a game to go with my new console? There's not really a decision to make, I'd get the "Deluxe" bundle.

Finally, they released the better color at launch.
At least I'll have a Mario game at launch. Seriously, Sunshine and Galaxy took way too long to be released.

007 Legends seems kind of interesting. The James Bond shooters that I've played so far are pretty decent, so I'll have to give that one a look.

Once again Nintendo is doing something in uncharted waters with their touchscreen controller. On that alone people will buy it. Only time will tell if it becomes a dust collector like the Wii. It'll be all about the games this time around, but they've gotta support all controller schemes (touchpad, pro controller, wiimote) since I don't want to have a bunch of each kind lying around when I want to play multiplayer games with friends.

I'm going to play the crap out of the F-zero Nintendoland attractive. The Pikmin one also, but mainly the F-zero so it tells Nintendo give me a NEW FZERO IN HD!

I wonder what will come out first, a new F-Zero or Metroid Dread.
I mean, seriously Nintendo, it's been 10 years since Fusion came out and almost 8 since Zero Mission which was just a remake. We need a new 2D Metroid already.
And no, don't even think about "Other M 2: Electric Babyloo"

That game pad had better be light enough to hold easily for extended periods of time.
Also, I want to see Four Swords Adventures with the GBA now the Wii U tablet screen.

Hopefully it won't be criminally hard like the last one. The computer was a freaking cheater, especially in Story Mode.
