Should I return to modding or release my assets?
I am at a place in my life where I need some kind of creative outlet and could see myself attempting to make a mod map project, but I also can see myself releasing my former maps assets to the public. Both would take a lot of time and effort to do, so I want to see what others thoughts are.
Map asset packs would have props and models from The Zombie Apocalypse series, Rancor Doomstar series, Mistborn and a few others I have still.

Wait...what's Mistborn about? Is it based on a book?

Are you willing to release more than models and objects? I'd be interested in world layout files as well (not that I would claim it and publish a new map) it's just cool to have.

I'm not sure how I feel about that in that the scope of file size, and how I'd feel about people seeing my terrible ZE skills. I may be comfortable with giving it out per request but not releasing to the public but to people specifically when it comes to map layouts.anthonybf2 wrote:Are you willing to release more than models and objects? Well I guess I would request them, or which parts you're willing to release that you wouldn't want public. I've been trying to collect various modder's assets to import their maps into the PSP version of Battlefront 2. I've got about 6 SWBF imports and 3-4 custom maps running made by various PC modders.MetalcoreRancor wrote: I'm not sure how I feel about that in that the scope of file size, and how I'd feel about people seeing my terrible ZE skills. Oh yes I saw that topic. In that case yes I would be fine with conversions absolutelyanthonybf2 wrote:Well I guess I would request them, or which parts you're willing to release that you wouldn't want public. Whaaaat?! You made a Mistborn map? I just finished reading that series a few weeks ago and it was awesome! I'm gonna go play your mod right now.MetalcoreRancor wrote:Yes it was a mod map set in Luthadel in the Mistborn series by Brandon SandersonNoobasaurus wrote:Wait...what's Mistborn about? Awesome I actually quit modding because I wanted to devote time to becoming an author myself, and I am working on my second novelNoobasaurus wrote:Whaaaat?! You made a Mistborn map? I don't think I've actually seen any of your maps. Do you have quick links laying around for downloads?
I got stuck with lots of life crap so I lost track of a lot of mods I wanted to try as well as new mods.

Just did a quick playthrough of your Mistborn mod; it definitely reminds me of your other ones. It's also really interesting how you did the amount of metal you have to burn as the energy bar. Also liked the blue lines for the coinshots. And the koloss are super powerful...one rock and you die.
Good for you, getting into writing. Writing is really cool. What was your first novel about?

Make sure you play around with Vin, she has secret combo moves that lets you push yourself into the air and explore the city roof tops.Noobasaurus wrote:Just did a quick playthrough of your Mistborn mod; it definitely reminds me of your other ones. The series I'm writing is a young adult fantasy fiction piece called The Chronicles Of The Cloud Of Time.
The first novel was The Cloud Born: Witness the death of an empire. Behold the rise of chaos. Decipher the Chronicle of the Cloud of Time.
The fall of the Kharsdahan Theocratic Utopia plunged the land into chaos. Caught in the maelstrom, four brave souls volunteer to escort a caravan of refugees to a land of salvation prophesied long ago.
Ridyan the Shifter, Syieva the Deviant, Meshala the Elemental and Brenale the Binder, have vowed to escort their charges to the safety of the land beyond the mountains. But in the ruins of Kharsadi City, a strange cult has emerged - and with it a menacing army of unparalleled dead.
Can Ridyan and his companions escape the grasp of the Cloud Born, or will they fall victim to the plans of the evil Chafha and their master, Aegast?
Read The Cloud Born, the stunning debut novel to Davis Michael Orser's epic fantasy series The Chronicle Of the Cloud Of Time, today!

Re: Should I return to modding or release my assets?
So you know, there's a bug in the poll system, and it hardly ever works any more. That being said, I always encourage people to release their assets. I'm in largely the same boat as you. But I lost my assets to a hard drive crash and am having to rebuild things. If I had released them the community would have benefited and I would have had a backup.
As far as coming back to modding, I'd say release your assets with an "as is" clause (in other words, you're not going to support them) and then start or continue any project you want. You get the best of both worlds. Your assets are backed up and can help the community, and you get to mod with no pressure to complete something.

Re: Should I return to modding or release my assets?
I've been leaning towards releasing the assets purely because I'm not sure if half the programs will even operate with windows 10, besides re-installing xsi, relearning all the key combos for ZE, it seems like a lot of work to do in preparations.Teancum wrote:So you know, there's a bug in the poll system, and it hardly ever works any more. Yeah, doing it that way releases the pressure, like I said. But you'd be surprised how quickly things come back once you dive in. I've been actively modding for only about two weeks after about three years off and it feels *almost* natural again.

Re: Should I return to modding or release my assets?
I tried both maps you posted, the one based from the story was more interesting. The zombie one didn't make any sense... like I can't see where shots are going, what are all the moving things? and it was hard to tell enemy from friendly. The mods are unique, maybe I will retry the zombie mod again with a full head later on.

Reading the readme will identify which mode you played, which determines what map you landed on. Each era is its own mapanthonybf2 wrote:I tried both maps you posted, the one based from the story was more interesting. Re: Should I return to modding or release my assets?
Welcome back! Aren't you still working on that book? You sent me a chapter awhile back. Hope you keep working on it. Also, if you're releasing any assets, those combos would be great to have.
