Is there a way to change your name without making a new profile?

I'm pretty sure we have another thread for this, but I can't remember if the answer was yes or no. I think it was no, though.

The answer is no, you can't change your name without making a new profile. However, you can login to GameSpy and swbf2 will use that name as the one shown ingame. Also, the v1.3 patch allows you to change your ingame name, by typing commands into that map preview box, but changing the name that way doesn't save it.

Nice to know.
I set all the controls for the gamepad and my name is spelled wrong.
Guess it's time to redo all the controls again.
If they included profiles that would match the settings of a previous one it would be much easier work with.

I seem to remember simply renaming LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\SaveGames\something.profile to something else and having it work.

Doing that only changes the name you see on the Profile screen. You will still have the original name in-game though.
